GIMSOC’S MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION WEEK – AN OVERVIEW

To kickstart the semester and invite new students to become a part of the community, GIMSOC organized a week with various events for all students in Georgia that showcased a small part of the community as well as their evolving ideas and aspirations.

The first event of the week, MediConnect: Uniting Medical, was held on the 14th of September. Situated in the NVU Health Hub, this event mainly focused on introducing students to each other and forming new connections among peers and future colleagues.

With around 55 students attending the event from various universities around Georgia, particularly NVU, DTMU, SEU, TSMU, and UG, activities began at 4:00 p.m. with a quick introduction by the warm team. Attendees were then divided into pairs to introduce themselves, and their passion for the field of medicine to each other. After around four minutes, the enthusiastic attendees exchanged partners and the session continued until everyone had a chance to interact with each other.

After a break and exchanging small talk about their various other interests, the event progressed into having the crowd converse about medical myths or stories they found fascinating in the field of medicine. Interesting and profound content was spoken by many which brought inquisitive and curious minds to think on various aspects that were sometimes left untouched.

The event ended on a great note with the Events Director and the entire team at around 6:00 p.m. expressing their gratitude and encouraging the attendees to put forth their ideas for future activities they would love to see happen.

The next following event was held on the evening of September 21st, from 4 to 6 PM. Medicineflex unfolded at the NVU Health Hub, leaving a memorable impression on all who attended. With approximately 40 enthusiastic participants, the event was a resounding success.

The event’s main attraction was a screening of the movie “Contagion,” which proved to be a captivating and thought-provoking choice, especially given the times we live in. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the film, creating an engaging and immersive atmosphere.

With a total of 40 attendees, the bustling space was enhanced by popcorn and juice stalls, offering delicious snacks and refreshments to complement the cinematic experience. What further contributed to the success of the event was the presence of dedicated volunteers who worked diligently behind the scenes. Their efforts were instrumental in ensuring that the event ran smoothly, from setting up the venue to assisting attendees throughout.

The combination of the movie, snacks, and the commitment of volunteers made it an evening to remember for all in attendance.

In summary, the “Registration Week” posed well-organized and enjoyable gatherings. It not only provided an opportunity for people to come together with great conversations but also offered a memorable cinematic experience for many.
