The last time I was asked to hand in a write-up, I was speaking as the then newly appointed Head Representative at TSMU. But now, after GIMSOC is in full throttle, it gives me immense pleasure in serving you as the Vice President of the Alumni Executive Committee.
In all its vastness, healthcare systems may seem daunting and procedural work may consume you. Medical students often find themselves oblivious to the direction they’re supposed to be heading in, not to mention how textbook medicine blinds us from a realistic view of healthcare. Our goal is to help you counter just that – to provide a voice of backing and support to young minds venturing out into the world of medicine. This committee was built on ideals meant to provide direction to medical undergraduates. We are all ears to medical students that may be confused or lack guidance. This includes information on preparation for competitive examinations, documentation after graduation, general advice on what’s next and much more.
After graduation, most students plan to study or work in a different country based on their preference. But most students don’t exactly know how to execute said plan. That’s another initiative that we’re very big on – students consulting us alumni, based on their country preferences. Our executives and program mentors are well versed with the countries (and their requirements) where students most commonly see themselves beginning their postgraduate training.
Clearly, a first for this society and its members is the launch of a fully working alumni body and committee. As pioneer members, it is our duty to structure the committee such that the work delegated under different programs makes it a well-oiled machine, not just for us, but for our successors to come as well. I have utmost faith in each executive of this committee, and it gives me great solace knowing that they are entrusted to contribute to the foundation of the programs that we have to offer.
With that, I send my best wishes out to those reading this. I hope we can be of great use to all the young and ambitious minds out there.
Regards,
Kartik Bhagat
Vice President of the Alumni Executive Committee
